Hi, is there anyone interested in helping me by exchanging emails? I am hoping to find an active Hindu that would be interested in answering a few questions about their personal practice for a college paper I am writing, if anyone is interested please respond. Your name may remain confidential, just will need a little bit of info like age, education, status, experiences, opinions, etc

I can do that...

I am hoping to find an active Hindu that would be interested in answering a few questions about their personal practice for a college paper I am writing, if anyone is interested please respond. Your name may remain confidential, just will need a little bit of info like age, education, status, experiences, opinions, etc. Again, this is not looking for the doctrine, but more so your personal involvement/understanding of each:

- Meditation
- Yoga
- Usage/application of scripture

If you respond, feel free to delve as deep as you want to in the discussion as it will enhance my ability to write an effective paper about Hinduism.

Hi

Your questions are very broad. Maybe you could be as specific as possibile with the questions, so that it will be easier for us to answer.

Thank you for being patient with me. I know that as I break it down more, there is still a wide range of stuff that can be talked about. Just one last time, I am just seeking a singular person's practice and not doctorine for these elements.

In terms of meditation, I am wondering a brief discussion of what it consists of for you personally, how often do you do it, and what do you seek from doing it.

For yoga, what style of yoga do you perform (i.e. Raja, Karma, Bhakti, or Jnana)? How does that style relate to your personal life style?

And for scriptures, which books do you use the most or are there one's that you value more than others? Do you commit them to memorization or just use them as instructional?

Again I appreciate the patience as I am trying to break this down for you as it will hopefully help me write the paper best. If you think there is anything else that is extremely important to yourself, feel free to add it, but this is what I am looking for. Thanks.

Hello

Here goes,

Meditation: Meditation to me is a tool which prepares one with a concentrated mind. It helps one to prepare oneself for the study of scriptures. Its helps one to hv concentration and clarity of thought.

Many people hv diff aims with meditation. Most do it thinking it brings them enlightenment. But according to Hindu scriptures, meditation is nt a direct route to enlightenment.

I personally try n meditate everyday.

Yoga: I am into Jnana yoga. Again, according to scriptures, jnana or knowledge seeking is of the highest value. It entails the study of scriptures and hence progressing onto a higher elevated state, where you ultimately attain enlightenment.

Most of us are educated now and pretty intellectual. So jnana yoga when scrutinised, is the best form for seeking enlightenment.

Scriptures: The Hindu liturgy is immense. One cant study the entire corpus of any text in totality. Currently i am studying Tatva Bodha, which captures quite simply the teachings of the brahma Sutras & Upanishads.

I aim to study the Upanishads next. In my opinion, the Upanishads would be the jewel. Memorising is not possible with me. It takes lots of strength. And the key to study is not really memorising but understanding and the teachings striking teh core of ones self.

When the teaching strikes at yr inner self, it could take days, weeks, months or years or even an instant(based on yr personal fitness). So whats impt is being fit to learn the scriptures.
